Javed is an ex investment banking CEO with a very strong risk management background and additional expertise in cross-asset trading and investing (in both public and private markets).

His unique combination of skills allows him to ‘connect the dots’ more effectively and to create opportunities by bringing together ideas from different disciplines. He has c30 years of experience.

He started his career at the Bank of England, on the graduate training programme, with an initial stint in the Financial Markets and Institutions Division. He then moved to the Banking Supervision Division where he undertook various roles as a Bank Official. These included the global supervision of HSBC and Standard Chartered and the establishment of the Quality Assurance Function.

After 9 years at the Bank, Javed moved to Nomura where he worked for 19 years, initially in the City and then in the Middle East. His first role there was as a Senior Credit Officer in risk management where he managed a significant portfolio of counterparty and inventory credit risk with a track record of no losses. He was also a key member of the team responsible for due diligence on the firm’s structured capital markets transactions and principal investments (globally ex Asia and Japan) – including unique transactions in the private credit and equity spaces.

He moved to Nomura’s Asset Investment Division, the de facto internal hedge fund, where he broadened his skill set to include the identification, execution and management of special situations trades, alternative assets and Asian private equity/pre-IPO warehousing investments. He also managed trading positions in risk arbitrage and equity long-short/credit hedged strategies in the financial services and retail sectors.

Javed transferred to the firm’s Middle East operation in 2007. He was initially based in Bahrain from where he co-led a new investment banking unit while also establishing Nomura’s Saudi operation. He moved to Riyadh in 2009 as the founding CEO of the new entity. In 2010, he moved to the new Dubai regional office to take up a senior regional business risk management role.

He retook the Saudi CEO role in 2014 and restructured the company to play to Nomura’s cross-border IBD strengths. He maintains a broad network of Saudi contacts – public and private sector - from his long association with the Kingdom.

Javed left Nomura in May 2017. He is currently based in Dubai and works with family offices globally. He is also an Adviser to The Global CIO Office, a recently-established platform – based in Singapore - that provides outsourced wealth management services to family offices.
